A fish or meat scale lives the hardest life in weighing — brine attacks the load cell, blood and ice get in, and the whole line is hosed down every night. Ordinary scales corrode and die within months. The rating to look for is IP: IP65 (SK-WP) for spray, IP67 (SJ-WP, FG-CWP) dust-tight and submersible, IP69K (SW) for direct high-pressure hot hose-down. All stainless, so the housing outlasts the salt.

Which weighing scale is best for a fish market or butchery in the UAE?
For stalls and counters that get hosed down daily, the A&D SJ-WP (IP67, submersible) is the right fit, and the SW Series steps up to IP69K for daily high-pressure hose-down. For heavy use in processing areas and wholesale floors, the SW Series is IP69K-rated — it withstands direct high-pressure washdown — and the SC Series platform handles crates up to 150 kg. What do IP65, IP67, and IP69K mean for a fish or meat scale?
The IP rating tells you how sealed the scale is against dust and water. IP65 withstands splashes and low-pressure spray; IP67 is dust-tight and survives submersion to 1 metre for 30 minutes; IP69K — the highest rating — withstands direct high-pressure, high-temperature hose-down. For seafood and butchery work where salt water, brine, and daily washdown are unavoidable, IP67 or IP69K is what keeps a scale alive for years instead of months.
Why do ordinary scales fail so quickly in fish and meat shops?
Salt water, blood, brine, and cleaning chemicals get into unsealed load cells and electronics, causing corrosion, drifting readings, and dead displays — often within months. Washdown-rated A&D scales seal the load cell and electronics inside stainless-steel housings, so the daily hose-down that kills a cheap scale is simply part of the routine.

Selling by weight is a trade transaction, so the scale falls under UAE legal metrology: type approval and verification come from MOIAT, and in Dubai the verification is carried out by Dubai Municipality's Dubai Central Laboratory.
