What is the best scale to weigh gold?
It depends where you weigh. For a shop counter, a compact bench scale like the A&D EK-i is fast and reliable. For a buying desk, refiner, or hallmark lab where 0.001 g matters, use a dedicated gold balance like the FX-GD or FZ-GD. For gemstones, a carat balance (FZ-CT/FX-CT, 0.001 ct). For weighing on the move — buying trips, customer visits — the battery-powered HT-500GD with tola, tael, and carat units built in.
Can I weigh gold on a regular kitchen scale?
Not if the number matters. A typical kitchen scale reads to 0.1 g at best and drifts more than that — at today’s gold prices that error is real money on every weighing, and it offers no tola, tael, or carat units. Jewellery weighing starts at 0.01 g readability, and serious buying or assay work uses 0.001 g.
Can these scales check gold purity?
A precision balance with a density kit checks purity by the specific-gravity method — weigh the item in air and in water, and the computed density gives a strong non-destructive indication for solid gold items. It is a first check, not a certification: formal purity certification is assay/hallmark work. We supply the balance-plus-density-kit setup from JAFZA stock.
Are these scales legal-for-trade in the UAE?
The FX-GD, FZ-CT, and HT-500GD are precision valuation and QC instruments rather than verified trade instruments. If you price transactions directly by weight and your use case requires a verified scale, tell us how you trade — we will recommend the right instrument and set it up with traceable calibration and documentation.
